About the Wind Symphony
The Central Virginia Wind Symphony made its debut in the fall of 2005, led by Music Director Mike Goldberg and Operations Manager Don Talley. The ensemble is comprised of the most talented high school musicians in the region. Mike recruits the membership and puts together the programs, while Don arranges the performance locations and makes sure the necessary equipment will be there.
The Wind Symphony is represented by over 20 area schools and members come from the cities of Richmond and Colonial Heights, Henrico, Chesterfield, Goochland, Powhatan, Prince George and Stafford counties.

Our Mission
The Central Virginia Wind Symphony strives to spotlight the best young musicians in the region. We will give the people of Central Virginia opportunities to see and hear these gifted students in live performances.
Prior to each concert season, band directors in high schools from the region are asked to submit recommendations for Wind Symphony membership. While musical excellence is an important criteria for nomination, we also look for students with a strong sense of responsibility and outstanding work ethic. The result is a roster of approximately seventy to eighty young people from all across the area, working together to entertain and impress local audiences.
The goals of the Central Virginia Wind Symphony are simple:
* To help foster positive working relationships between students of varied geographic and cultural backgrounds
* To assist in building a degree of professionalism and responsibility in the student members
* To strengthen local awareness of the potential and abilities our regional music education departments have created
* To instill in the students the pride of accomplishment in hard work well done, remembering Voltaire's words: "Work saves us from three great evils: boredom, vice and need"
